Directors Coner

Spring and almost summer are upon us. I know you will be making plans with your families for great summer outdoor activities. Please remember that we strongly encourage children in your care to attend a summer camp if possible. I would also encourage all care givers to include all the children and adults in your care in your summer plans as much as possible.

As usual, we have many new things happening at DePaul. Our third group home for adults opened in Waynesboro on April 15, 2006. This home is brand new and is accessible by people with physical handicaps. We are very pleased to offer this service in the Shenandoah Valley.

On April 13, 2006, DePaul was awarded a $10,000 grant by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. The money is for the young adults in our Independent Living Program. It will be used to assist them as they make the transition to being on their own after successfully completing our program. We were delighted to be selected by the youth leaders in the community for this award.

As you can see, the Caring Chronicle has a new look. We are expanding our articles and now have pictures. Each program will be submitting articles and features. The Kudos to our Kids will be individualized for each office and will be inserted in the newsletters for families in that office. Many thanks to Jonas Vesterlund and Kimberly Burrows for designing our new look.

We say goodbye and thanks to mentors Jennifer Payne, Cameron Gray, Chris Miller, Stephen Niamke, Kevin Dillard, and Ronald Blackstock.

We welcome our new staff members who will be working at our Waynesboro group homes. They are Peggy High, Colleen Helmick, Alice Churchill, and Mary Hale. We also welcome new mentors Grady Hampton, Angela Watlington, Connie Short, Jeff Brintle, Velma Fitzgerald, Heather Simpson and Rebekah Roberts,We welcome new social workers Janice Monroe and Sheila Walker, case manager Angela Booth, office manager Tytiana Clark, clinician Louis Puryear, Youth Counselor SheRonda Cole, and social work supervisor Chris Jones.
