DePaul Worker honored by Special Olympics

DePaul Social Worker Jim Strock volunteers for Special Olympics as coach, chaperone and coordinator. This past month he was honored for his perspiration and dedication.

Jim Strock, a Social Worker from DePaul's Developmental Disabilities Program, received "Coach of the Year" honors at the Special Olympics of Virginia Banquet on April 17th. Jim became involved in Special Olympics in 1999, when an individual he knew living in a group home wanted to participate in the Special Olympics basketball program. Special Olympics saw Jim as an eager volunteer and quickly put him to work. Jim became involved as a coach and chaperone; he coaches basketball, volleyball and is presently the coordinator for the golf team. He also saw the benefit of having a person who could serve as a link between Special Olympics and the agency for which he worked.

Jim came to work for DePaul in August 2005 as a Social Worker in the Waynesboro Office. Jim says that he feels honored by the recognition and hopes to continue to volunteer his time providing support and encouragements for the athletes and friends that he has made over the years.
