Foster parent spotlight: Connie and Sammy Collins

By Charlotte Hoover, Social Worker - Abingdon office
Connie and Sammy Collins of Meadowview, VA, have been foster parents with our Abingdon office since 1998. They have cared for numerous children during their careers as foster parents; providing a safe, secure home to children of all ages, with different backgrounds, and with different goals. Connie and Sammy even recruited their own daughter and son-in-law to be foster parents. They are keeping it in the family!

The Collins family enjoys outdoor activities; Sammy's the fisherman of the family and frequently takes kids fishing and keeps the boys working on cars. Connie is the bingo player of the family and keeps everyone laughing with her sense of humor. Many of the children who have been in their care still keep in touch. And the Collins' family often asks about kids they've kept in respite-they even like to have their pictures in the home. They've shown incredible patience and commitment toward working with kids in care and their birth families.

Our Social Workers also enjoy the Collins family, and Sammy and Connie have a good relationship with the agency. Thank you, Sammy and Connie, for all the work you do!
