Directors Coner

As we move from winter towards spring on the calendar, the weather seems to want to give us the winter we didn't have earlier. I hope by the time this newsletter is published, we will be having more warm days.

As always, new and exciting things are happening at DePaul. We are pleased to announce that we received a grant for $10,400 from, Knights of Virginia Assistance for the Retarded (KOVAR). With this money we will be able to purchase equipment for our new group home in Waynesboro, and equipment for the Waterlick Day Support Center. We were also able to use a portion of the money to help defray the cost of the van for our Dogwood Place group home. This generous donation is greatly appreciated by our clients and staff.

After almost 18 months of operation, our day care center has a new home and a new name. It is now the DePaul Child Development Center. The staff and children will be moving in early March. The center will be located on Peter's Creek Road, in Brammer Village. It will be a neighbor to our Clinical Services office also in Brammer Village. We are looking forward to expanding our services once the move is completed.

I am pleased to announce that we have a new Branch Director in our Danville office. Tom Morris joined us on February 21, 2006. Tom has had extensive experience in child welfare related positions. He was formerly the assistant director at Hughes Memorial Home in Danville.

As a part of the dissemination portion of the large federal grant that the adoption program received over three years ago, there will be an adoption seminar in Roanoke in March for adoption professionals. The focus of the seminar will be attachment issues. This will be one of the last activities under that grant; the major services of the grant are now funded by state monies.

We say good bye and thanks to Mentors Aarolyn Cobbs, Jack Roberts, Ryan Wylie, Rebecca Shaver, Michael Randall, Tiffany Warren, Lisa Bond, Jarell Christian, Helga Radick, Bryan Sells, Lenore Wells, Amanda Oakes and Dana King, Youth Counselors Lindsey Reed and Ashley Gillespie, Office Manager Ashley Gardner, Social Workers Lisa Hurt-Glass, Kristen McGillard, Adrian Massie and Jenny Mays, and Branch Director Trish Woodson.

We welcome In-Home Clinician Holly Jones, Social Workers Wendy Little, Robin Berry, Dionne Wood and Bethany Brumfield as well as our new branch director. We welcome back Social Worker Monica Mann who moved away and returned. We also have five interns with us this semester: Sarah Dickinson, Sarah Sansoni, Lyn Howard, Rachel Wolpert and Amanda Miller.
