MDA Charity

Four DePaul staff members were arrested and locked up in the Roanoke County jail…all in the name of charity. April Estrada, Karen Slate, Andy Crawford, and Vena Duncan made this ultimate sacrifice to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Jail and Bail.

Each participant was "arrested" by a police officer at his or her office and then taken by limo to the jail. Once at the jail, each "inmate" was given a cell phone to call people to bail him or her out. Once bail was reached, the inmate was released.

"I participated because I have a relative who has ALS and it is heartbreaking to watch someone you care about live with that disease" said Estrada. "I know how important research is for Muscular Dystrophy and associated diseases and I wanted to help in some way."

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency - a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
