Care Provider Spotlight:
Pam Lester

Pam Lester has the kindness and experience to make her a wonderful care provider with the developmental disabilities program.

Her experience comes from working for four and a half years as a Residential Support Technician in a group home that serves individuals with disabilities, which is how she met the person who is in her home at this time.

Pam became a care provider for DePaul Family Services in 2006. In April of this year she welcomed a gentleman with multiple physical disabilities into her home. This person lived at the group home where she is employed prior to choosing to move in with her. When he first came to live with her, he was unable to use his hands or arms and was confined to a wheelchair. Pam helped him seek physical therapy, and he quickly regained skills. He is now able to feed himself, lock the brakes on his wheelchair and raise his right arm over his head.

Pam had been told by some doctors that there was nothing they could do to improve the quality of this individual's life, but she did not accept that answer. She continued to persevere and found doctors who were willing to assist. Even though he is still in a wheelchair and has numerous medical issues, Pam has made sure that he lives his life doing the things that he wants to do. His one dream was to see the ocean which she fulfilled for him with a trip this summer to Virginia Beach!

Pam, we at DePaul Family Services say "thank you" for being a kind, caring person and not giving up. You have made a major difference in this individual's life and that makes you a wonderful care provider.
