TRAINING: Keeping Our Children Safe

DePaul Family Services is teaming up with the Christiansburg Police Department to provide information and strategies for keeping your children safe. Speakers for this workshop will include many police officers in our community as well as employees of Montgomery County Social Services and DePaul Family Services. We are proud to be offering this training and hope you will take advantage of this free opportunity to learn more about protecting our children.

Summary of Workshop Topics:
Child Safety Seats-This workshop will assist parents and foster parents in how to properly install a child safety seat. It will also discuss important laws and information regarding proper car restraints for children.

Internet Safety- Christiansburg Police Department will lead you through important information regarding internet safety and the general safety of your child.

Drugs- This workshop will help parents and foster parents identify common substances used by adolescents. General information on keeping your children substance free will be addressed during this workshop.

CPS Investigation- Most Children in Foster Care have dealt with Child Protective Services (CPS). Learn what happens when a complaint is filed and how the investigation is handled by the police and CPS.

Gang Awareness- This workshop will assist you in identifying gang activity in your area. Information on local areas that are targeted by gang activity will assist you in protecting your child against gangs. Police will discuss the preventative methods that are being used to protect children against gangs in this area.

This workshop is presented as a service to the community with no registration fee or charge for lunch. There is a limited number of spaces available.
