3rd Annual Ribbon-Tying Ceremony to Kick Off National Foster Care Month!

Come join us on May 1st at noon at the Free Speech Wall on the east end of Charlottesville's Downtown Mall (in front of City Hall) as we celebrate foster parents and raise awareness of the need for more foster parents.

After brief remarks by Mayor Dave Norris and People Places Executive Director Brad Bryant, join us in tying blue ribbons to the nearby trees -- 285 ribbons to signify to the 285 children in foster care in the areas of Charlottesville, Albemarle, and Greene County.

The ribbons will stay up all month long to raise awareness of the need for foster parents in our community. This event was well attended by social workers and child advocates the last two years, but we'd love to have more foster parents at this media event. And if YOU would like to give a brief 5 minute speech about your foster parenting experience and/or give a short interview to a reporter, please call Amy Nash at 434-970-3329.

This event is not appropriate for children currently in foster care, as the TV cameras would compromise their right to confidentiality. But birth children and adopted children are welcome to join us and help out with our ribbon tying!

Do you love planning special events? This event is sponsored by the Central Virginia Adoption Awareness Coalition, which includes Tri-Area Foster Families, Albemarle and Charlottesville Social Services, People Places,
DePaul Family Services, and United Methodist Family Services.
